Michael Good: A Vocabulary of Moving Forms
"Michael Good: A Vocabulary of Moving Forms" showcases the extraordinary artistry of Michael Good, a leading figure in contemporary metalsmithing, particularly known for his mastery of anticlastic raising. This exhibition invites visitors to delve into this captivating technique, which transforms flat sheets of metal into striking, three-dimensional forms full of movement and life.
Anticlastic raising is a skill-demanding process that involves expertly hammering metal on a specialised, serpentine stake, allowing it to curve in multiple directions. This technique not only highlights Good’s technical prowess but also opens up a myriad of creative possibilities.
Good emphasises the importance of developing a "vocabulary" of forms, reflecting his deep commitment to education. Over the years, he has actively contributed to the educational landscape, teaching and mentoring aspiring metalsmiths, thereby fostering a new generation of artisans.
This exhibition marks a landmark moment, presenting this comprehensive collection for the first time in Hong Kong. It signifies Good’s inaugural showcase in the city, offering a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience his exceptional work firsthand.
