The Fruits of Rebellion

As spring brings warmth and blossoms, it is the perfect time to appreciate the art of floral casting by local goldsmith Chris Li!

Before the act of casting, the essence lies in the initial object. Metal casting is an ancient craft with a history spanning thousands of years. Initially, humans used the lost wax method to create master mould or replicate objects for mass production. This technique allowed for the creation of numerous works. In the modern era, the integration of 3D printing into the mould-making process has become crucial for producing high-quality products. Two aspects remain essential: the original model and the casting technique. Chris Li selectively captures the essence of flowers, studying their characteristics, bridging and reconstructing the possibilities of casting.

“Others seek for uniformity’s embrace,
Chris Li captures flowers, solidified in their unique grace.”

Local metal artist Chris Li entered the field of casting with a rebellious mindset, breaking away from traditional norms yet honing his craft in his own diligence. Seeking to save time on training in shaping and forming molds, he chose flowers and plants as his inspiration. However, this choice granted him further insights, leading him to continuous experimentation and the development of unique casting techniques. Through his artistry, he breathes life into precious metals and embarks on an unconventional path in the realm of goldsmith art.
